Often compared to Andy Warhol, Takashi Murakami (b. 1962) is a prolific, versatile and internationally renowned superstar artist.

Working in an array of media, unencumbered to the distinctions between high art and commercial products, Murakami's colorful motifs are instantly recognizable. 

While Murakami already had a high-profile in the art world, in 2002 his reputation was catapulted when he began a continuing-collaboration with Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. 

The fashion house used his designs and illustrations on an array of luxury products, notably handbags. 

Murkami's signature characters and motifs hijacked the illustrious brand's traditional patterns. 

Murakami arguably became the most successful artist of the first decade of the new millenium: 

He created artwork for Kanye West. His sculptures fetched more than $10 million at auction. 

And a huge retrospective travelled the world, stopping in museums such as the Guggenheim (Bilbao) and the Brooklyn Museum.

In the fall of 2010 Murakami was the third contemporary artist to be invited to exhibit his works at the Palace of Versailles.

All of these accolades aside, Murkami's aesthetic is undeniably optimistic, uplifting and unique. 

He has extracted many of the characteristics of Japanese anime and created a visual language that is understood and admired globally.

"Flowers 3" is a paradigm of his work. A 21st century landscape from Japan's most admired cultural export.
